Vote Jill Saward

David Davis, the former Shadow Home Secretary, resigned from the House of Commons in protest at a vote by MPs to support a new law which would allow, in an emergency situation, the detention of certain suspected terrorists for up to 42 days while the police and security services continue their investigations.
And yet, despite this principled stand, he now seeks to win the subsequent by-election - a by-election which will cost the citizens of the East Riding of Yorkshire tens of thousands of pounds.
Neither the Labour Party nor the Liberal Democrats are putting up a candidate; but 25 people are challenging David Davis to be the next MP for Haltemprice and Howden.
I am one of them - and with your help, I can win.
I am standing in this by-election to give victims a voice.
Too often we hear politicians and criminal justice experts talk about the rights of the accused, the rights of prisoners, and the rights of ex-offenders - even the rights of suspected terrorists not to be deported for trial overseas.
And while it is important that everybody has a fair trial, and that all prisoners are treated fairly; nobody is speaking out for victims.
I'm a victim. I was raped in my own home on 6th March 1986 by a gang of men who broke in at lunchtime - in broad daylight.
The publicity surrounding that case shone a light on the otherwise hidden way victims of crime - and sexual violence in particular - were treated by the criminal justice system. Many laws were changed as a direct result of my case.
Things have got better for victims. But they are still not good enough. I've met thousands of victims in the past 22 years and many of them have stories to tell about the way their case was handled by the criminal justice system; or about how they are too frightened to report their attack to the police.
Please support my campaign to be the next Member of Parliament for Haltemprice and Howden and together we can make a stand for victims of crime.
